In Alexandría Project, Innerspec Technologies developed new crack inspection procedures and specific EMAT instrumentation which targeted the improvement of conventional NDT crack detection techniques such as X-Ray or Magnetic Particle Analysis. These techniques show operational difficulties and safety hazards in contrast with EMAT technology.

Through this project, Innerspec validated the advantages of using EMAT technology in the following areas:

  • Rail wheel and axle surface and subsurface crack detection.
  • Inspection of aerospace welds subject to extreme operational conditions (Inconel) using EMATs This technology is the result of a National Research and Development project supported by the Spanish Ministry of Science and Competitiveness.
