MRUT - MEDIUM RANGE UT (EMAT)

Medium Range Ultrasonic Testing (MRUT) is a suite of advanced non-destructive testing techniques that utilize guided waves to inspect inaccessible areas up to 3 meters (10 feet) from the sensor location with high resolution and accuracy. The MRUT scanners and sensors are designed to generate high-frequency guided waves with different mode configurations (Shear Horizontal, Lamb) depending on the type of application and technical requirements. All MRUT techniques and applications are available on VOLTA 2.
MRUT Applications
  • CORROSION UNDER PIPE SUPPORTS (CUPS). Manual axial and circumferential scanning for CUPS. The patented SIZING scanner and software provide actual measurements of remaining wall thickness (quantitative assessment).
  • DEFECT DETECTION ON BURIED/HIDDEN INTERFACES. Inspects inaccessible areas of structures (e.g., lamp posts) from the exposed side using the SIZING or CIRC scanners. Can penetrate up to 3 meters (10 ft) to detect corrosion or other damage.
  • FAST AXIAL SCANNING ON FREE-STANDING PIPES. Quick and accurate detection of circumferential defects on exposed pipes with light or no coatings (<3–4mm) using our PML or PMX scanners. Fast axial scanning at speeds up to 150mm/s (6 in/s).
  • DEFECT DETECTION ON RAILROAD WHEELS. Detects sub-surface defects on railroad wheel treads from a single point on the wheel using the POINT sensor.
  • SINGLE POINT INSPECTIONS. Designed for localized assessments on boiler tubes, tanks, and other structures using the POINT sensor where access is limited and scanning is not feasible or required.
  • AXIAL SCANNING ON RAILS. Fast inspection and detection of defects on the head of rails using the PMX scanner.

MRUT scanners/sensors

Innerspec's MRUT techniques utilize high-frequency guided waves in Lamb and SH modes for superior detection in hard-to-access areas on a wide range of structural components. MRUT complements LRUT with higher sensitivity and defect qualification and quantification near the sensor.
