The Rollmate® is a fully automated mill roll inspection system combining Innerspec Technologies' patented technology with the latest developments in ultrasonics and software. The Rollmate is a cost effective alternative for inspecting rolls of any alloy, forged and cast. The Rollmate operates while grinding, decreasing inspection cycle time. The Rollmate can be operated in automatic mode to halt the grinder when the roll is defect free, or manual mode to start and stop inspections as required.
System Description
The Rollmate is comprised of the following components:

An environmentally controlled enclosure for the system electronics. The door includes a touch-screen where the operator controls the system. Microsoft Windows® NT system displays a real time map of the roll with defect positions clearly indicated and a sidebar provides detailed ultrasonic amplitude data.

A motor driven actuator extends and retracts the probe for contact with the roll. The basic probe comes with two sensors to detect surface and subsurface cracks. Additional sensors can be added for bruise detection and detection of core-shell disbond or can be customized for other types of defects.
